When I charge my electric forklift, there is an option to "equalize" the charge. What does this mean?
When you equalize a battery, you distribute the cell charge evenly. This will ultimately give you a longer battery life and keep the battery cells on even grounds. A battery contains many cells, and over the course of time the cells voltage drifts away. In a unequalized battery, the chance of one cell failing is greater, which then would ruin the whole battery. When you equalize a battery, you overcharge the cells making sure that each cell is fully charged, this typically works for 12V batteries. On larger battery stacks, like your forklift, they have developed a system that allows the battery to equalize itself while charging.
